Antonio Petruccelli (1907-1994)
After acquiring this
original 1938 artwork at Illustration House’s winter auction
in New York last year, we’re happy to offer it as a Plan59/Shorpy
holiday print, in the quantities and sizes listed below. The
30 x 22 inch prints are offered in a limited edition of 100;
the 44 x 56 prints in a limited edition of 10. This edition
of prints closes Jan. 1, and will reopen with Series III in November 2008.
ABOUT THE ARTIST.
Antonio Petruccelli made a name in the graphic arts with his
covers for Fortune magazine and the New Yorker in the 1930s
and 40s. The gouache here was reproduced over a
full
page in the December 1938 issue of Fortune, and also as a
Christmas card sent to subscribers. The prints we’ve struck are stunningly gorgeous and show exquisite
detail. We’re certain they’ll be a joy to give, and an ever
greater joy to get.
